Apple has just introduced its priciest iPad Pro, equipped with the new M4 chip. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals that Apple is putting its M series chips in its cloud servers. This move appears to be connected to the advanced AI features coming in the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.
Apple has a big plan for its iPhones, especially the iPhone 16 series. These new phones will have some fancy artificial intelligence (AI) features. But here’s the thing: some of these AI features need more power than what the phone alone can handle. So, Apple is making a smart move by using its own powerful chips, called the M series chips, in its cloud servers.
According to Mark Gurman, who knows a lot about Apple, these servers with M series chips are specially built to handle AI tasks. Right now, Apple is using a chip called the M2 Ultra (which powers some of their powerful computers) in these servers. But soon, they might switch to using the newer M4 chips.
Now, Apple isn’t stopping there. They’re also working on making chips just for these AI servers. These chips are being made with some super advanced technology called the 3nm process node, and they’re expected to be ready for mass production by the second half of 2025.
This move by Apple is interesting because they had initially planned to keep most of the AI processing on the iPhone itself. But it looks like some tasks need more muscle power, and Apple is ensuring they have it. Plus, by using their own servers, Apple can better protect user data, which is a big deal for privacy.
