Apple had launched products from the brand, including the iPhone SE 2022, the latest M1 Ultra SoC with Mac Studio, and the Studio display at the time. Among them, the latest iPad Air 5 (2022) was launched in Nepal. In this article, let’s have a brief look at the latest iPad Air 5 which is powered by the Apple M1 SoC and brings some noticeable upgrades over the last-gen iPad Air 4.
Apple iPad Air 5 Overview
Design and Display
Talking about the looks the iPad Air 5 is not any different from the last year’s iPad Air 4. We get an all-aluminum body with magnetic connectors at the back. The back houses a big Apple logo and we have a single camera setup with a mic at the rear and miss out on the LED flash. The power button on the top has Touch Id support too.
Now, coming to the front, talking about the display we get a 10.9 inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1640 x 2360 pixels and True-tone support. We don’t have any changes in the display department. This is a 60Hz panel with 500 nits brightness of maximum brightness and support for 2nd generation Apple pencil. The tab is thin at just 6.1 mm and weighs 462gm. This time we get 5G support too.
Performance
This is where we get a major overhaul as even the iPad Mini 6th Gen was ahead of iPad Air 4 in terms of performance. So, the all-new iPad Air 5 is powered by Apple M1 SoC, yes the one they used in 1st Gen M1 Macs and the Pro series of iPads.
The M1 chip used in the iPad Air is an octa-core SoC with 8 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores with 8GB RAM. It’s amazing to see the M1 treatment on the iPad Air. On the storage side of things, we still get a 64GB base storage variant with an upgrade upto 256GB, while the 128GB variant is still missing. Talking about the software, iPad Air 2022 is running on the latest iPad OS 15.3.
Camera
Optics on the tablets is generally overlooked, this time we have some upgrade to the front camera. Here we get the similar 12MP f/2.4, 122Ëš ultra-wide shooter with Center stage support, which we saw on the last year’s iPad 9th Gen and the latest iPad Mini. While at the rear we have the same 12MP f/1.8 sensor with a microphone hole and no LED flash.
