Talking about the M2 Chipset it was announced yesterday on June 6, 2022. Where we saw new the Apple MacBook that is Mac-book air M2 and Macbook Pro 13 with M2. The M2 Chipset is the successor to the M1 chipset. The first custom-designed ARM-based computer chip was unveiled back in November 2020. As per the announcement, the M2 chip is featured at the heart of the new Macbook Air and the new 13″ MacBook Pro. The chipset is built on the second generation of a 5nm technology with the use of 20 billion transistors. Which is 25% more than its predecessor M1 chip.
Furthermore, the performance improvement in the M2 chipset compared to the M1 chipset with an 8-core CPU. The M2 chipset performs 18% better as it’s paired with a larger cache. While the efficiency cores have also been significantly enhanced. Whereas the M2 gets a 10-core GPU which is 2-core more than the M1 Chip. Moreover, the M2 chip also gets a 35% more powerful GPU and 40% faster Neural Engine compared to the M1 chip.
With the offering of improved efficiency and performance in Apple’s M2 chipaet. The M2 chip also supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5 memory and 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. Additionally, the M2 includes a higher band-with video decoder, supporting 8K H.264, HEVC video, and a ProRes video engine.
