Are you tired of slow internet connections? Do you want to know which Internet Service Provider (ISP) is the best in Nepal? If your answer is yes, then you have landed on the right page. In this article, we’re going to talk about the best ISP in Nepal. Additionally, we’re also going to discuss the current scenario of internet service and how you might be paying more than you should for your internet connection.
Current Scenario of Internet Service in Nepal
After the announcement of a mind-blowingly cheap internet connection from CG, everybody knew the game would never be the same. And many thought CG would take over the Internet Service Provider industry of Nepal. At the very least, other ISPs would have to make massive changes to stay in the market. And that’s what has happened.
Currently, Internet Service Providers in Nepal are bringing up new plans, changing the pricing plans that they had, or introducing new and more capable routers. They’re doing it all.
Apart from this few Internet Service Providers have also decided to provide their users with free TV plans along with the internet plan. So the luxury of watching TV with that big 65” screen is now free when you subscribe to an internet plan. The point is Nepali Internet Service Providers are making their service cheaper and offering new plans.
So basically the situation of Internet Service in Nepal is no longer a misery. The internet is cheaper than ever. And the premium gaming smartphones that launched in Nepal can now make full use of their 5Ghz internet and WiFi 6 capabilities.
Best Internet Service Provider in Nepal
The best internet service provider is the one that has the cheapest yet fastest internet plans, the best response, and support team, and the most durable devices. But the catch is, there’s no easy way one user could find out about all these things without investing a significant amount of money.
You’d have to work in a tech reviewing company that has a connection to the best ISPs in Nepal. Oh, wait! That’s us. We did some research so that you won’t have to. And here, in this section, we’re going to talk about all major ISPs whose plans are most lucrative to the end-user, meaning: you. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
1. Vianet
Vianet is one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Nepal providing reliable and affordable broadband connections since 1999. In 2011, Vianet started providing Fiber Optics or Fiber to The Home (FTTH) services. It was the first ISP in Nepal to provide connections with dedicated speeds without any sharing ratio.
In 2016, Vianet introduced an IPTV service for HD Live TV, movies and videos on demand, and features like catchup TV with 1-week auto recording.
About the company, Vianet is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company that is always about providing the best internet and TV services. For that very reason, it has partnered with World Class brands like Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, and Ciena.
Recently, Vianet launched a new campaign named ‘Ultra-Fi’ on 9th December 2021. Ultra-Fi basically means ‘Ultra Broadband’ and ‘WiFi’. In this campaign, they’re providing a Dual-Band WiFi ONU (Optical Network Unit), introducing new plans, and upgrading the existing internet packages of their users.
We’ve already covered everything there is to know about the campaign and its plans. So check out our article on Vianet’s UltraFi Campaign.
As for the support, Vianet is quite good at that. They provide an easy-to-use self-service platform for customers. The platform is a client-customer portal as well. So there’ll be someone to assist you too. Furthermore, there is also a mobile app for customers to manage and monitor their internet connection and receive support. Apart from that, the company also has a call center with over 150 people available 24/7 365 days throughout the year as well.
2. Worldlink
Worldlink is certainly among the top Internet and Network Service Providers in Nepal with over 2 million users in the country. Established in 1995, Worldlink has been serving the Nepali community for well over 25 years now. And in these 25 years, Worldlink has constantly upgraded its game.
Worldlink is partners with big names like Nokia, Cisco, Airtel, Google, and Speedtest. Thanks to this, and dedication from Worldlink, the company now has coverage in 73 districts of Nepal.
The recent and probably the most attractive internet plan from Worldlink has to be the Photon series. It’s a high-speed broadband internet connection with speeds up to 600 Mbps. Along with this plan, Worllink has also introduced mesh Wi-Fi and Nokia Mesh BEACON 1.1 router which is similar to WiFi extenders but enables customers to log into a single WiFi network.
Talking about the support, Worldlink provides support via their mobile app, call centers, and an e-service page. They also feature an FAQ page on their website along with video tutorials and payment guides.
3. CGNET
CGNET or CG Communications Limited is probably the fastest growing Internet Service Provider of Nepal right now. It is widely admired and is at the forefront of affordable internet services in Nepal. It launched on June 1 with a jaw-dropping price of Rs 999 for 120Mbps of internet. And ever since, the company has forced the internet situation in Nepal to change for the better.
Headquartered in Kathmandu, CGNET is yet to cover all parts of the valley but it’s growing at a ‘Speed That Matters’. And yet, it is already sitting at the top with other leading ISPs of Nepal.
As of now, CGNET is providing two internet plans: 50Mbps and 120Mbps for the price of Rs. 649 and Rs. 999 respectively. This Super Sasto Package from CGNET is an ideal solution for students and residents.
CGNET has introduced its service not long ago, so the support people haven’t really got to know the support all that much like other ISPs. That being said, the company has received lots of love and admiration from customers as well.
4. Subisu
Definitely one of the oldest names, Subisu has been providing its services since 2001. It is now providing a high-speed internet connection and 280+ TV channels via the Clear TV service. Moreover, the company has ISO 9001:2015 as well as 27001:2013 certifications.
With services all over the country, Subisu is also one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Nepal. And in collaboration with Nokia Subisu is developing a 400Gbps single optical fiber network to meet the high-speed internet demand of Nepal in June 2021.
The current offer from Subisu includes a package of 150Mbps FTTH internet along with a 4 TV subscription (including the premium package) at Rs. 28318 per year.
Like any other ISP, Subisu also provides its support via self-care platforms, mobile app, and call centers. Additionally, you can also visit a Subisu Station for your queries. Not to mention, there are video tutorials for customers on their official website as well.
5. Other ISPs
ClassicTech, NT Fiber, Dishhome FIbernet are some other popular ISPs in Nepal. ClassicTech and Dishhome provide internet connections up to 100Mbps at a price under Rs. 20,000. Although there were talks about Dishhome bringing a 200Mbps connection as well. But that’s still a little more expensive compared to the best Internet plans in Nepal. But we are indeed looking forward to these ISPs introducing top-tier internet plans.
Obviously, these are not the only ISPs in Nepal. As a matter of fact, there are over 40 ISPs in Nepal. But the above-mentioned ISPs feature upgraded plans that are keeping up with the current high-speed internet hype.
And of course, we’ll keep updating the list so that it’s always talking about the best Internet Service Provider in Nepal.
Internet Service Comparison Grid
Now comes the juicy part. Here we’re going to show you exactly how much an ISP is charging for the highest connection speed that they provide. Let’s look at the table.
Vianet | CGNET | Worldlink | Subisu | DishHome | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Speed | 175 Mbps | 120 Mbps | 150 Mbps | 150 Mbps | 100 Mbps |
Price (12 Months) | Rs. 15,000 | Rs. 11,988 | Rs. 14,400 | Rs. 26,549 | Rs. 18,499 |
Price Per Month Per Mbps | Rs. 7 | Rs. 8.325 | Rs. 8 | Rs. 14.75 | Rs. 15.42 |
Internet Installation Charge | Free | Free | Free | Free | Free |
WiFi Device Deposit | Rs. 500 | Rs. 500 | Rs. 500 | Rs. 500 | Rs. 500 |
Dual Band WiFi ONU | Rs. 1,000 | Free | Free | Free | Free |
TV Installation Charge | Free | No TV | Free | Free (1 TV) | Free |
TV Service | 2 ViaTV | No TV | 1 NetTV | 4 TV | 1 Dish IPTV |
Renewal Cost | Rs. 16,950 | Rs. 13,547 | Rs. 14,400 | Rs. 26,549 | Rs. 20,904 |
Total Cost of New Installation + 1 Set-Top-Box (Inclusive of Tax) | Rs. 19,080 | Rs. 14,047 | Rs. 19,530 | Rs. 31,999 | Rs. 20,904 |
By now, it should be clear that Vianet sits at the top for the best value-for-money Internet Service Provider in Nepal. Its 250 Mbps connection is more than enough and you’d only be paying Rs. 6 for every Mbps connection. Plus, you also get 3 viaTV connections with a free set-top box.
Worldlink is very close to Vianet when it comes to the price-to-speed ratio. But since it’s a 300Mbps connection, the overall price is also the highest. CGNET provides the cheapest option among the ISPs. But you’ll be paying more for every Mbps connection and there isn’t a TV subscription included.
FUP Comparison of ISPs in Nepal
FUP or Fair Usage Policy is a strategy practiced by Internet Service Providers worldwide to prevent misuse or excessive use of bandwidth provided. The ISPs do advertise their internet service as unlimited but the capacity of servers is limited. And misuse of bandwidth can bring the quality of service down. So to prevent this ISPs reduce your internet speed if you use more bandwidth than suggested.
For example, the FUP of CGNET starts limiting the speed at bandwidth 1900-2000GB (level 1). Meaning, if you use over 2000GB of data within a month, your speed will be reduced to 50% of the original: 50Mbps. And if you use 2100GB, the speed will be 30% of the original.
For Vianet, the level 1 data usage quota of 175Mbps connection is 2000-2200GB. After this, the speed will be reduced to 90Mbps which is still a very fast connection. And as for Subisu, the 80Mbps plan has a bandwidth limit of 1550GB and a fallback speed of 35Mbps.
On the other hand, Worldlink limits the data on a daily basis. For the traditional 60Mbps connection, the daily bandwidth limit was 40GB. And the fallback speed after the limit was 6Mbps. And since faster connections like the 300 Mbps photon service are new, their FUP is not clearly mentioned.
Which Internet Connection Should You Get?
There’s no way we can decide on an internet connection for you. That’s up to you to decide because you know best what you need. However, we can suggest what ISP is best for what group of users.
Well, if you want the fastest connection and money is not an issue, Worldlink seems like a good option. On the other hand, if you’re not going to make full use of Worldlink’s 600Mbps speed. And if you just want a cheaper option you don’t need a TV subscription, then CGNET is a good option.
And if you want a budget-friendly option that is cost-effective as well as profitable, you’ll want ViaNET. You’ll only be paying Rs. 7 for every Mbps connection with the 175Mbps plan. And you also get 2 via TV subscription for free.
