In recent periods, boAt has started to market its products in the Nepali market. boAt, known for its budget-friendly earphones with strong bass, released the Nirvana Ion earbuds earlier this year. It had a major key selling point as 120 hours of playback time. Along with that, boAt brought a premium design, strong sound with multiple EQ modes, and a long-lasting battery which I will discuss in detail in the following Boat Nirvana Ion Review.
At Rs. 4,999, the Nirvana Ion faces stiff competition in the sub-Rs. 5000 market, where names like Anker, Onleplus Nord, Purple, and Redmi offer features like noise cancellation and call support. I’ve been using the Nirvana Ion for a month to see if it lives up to the hype and today
Boat Nirvana Ion Review: Pros and Cons, Detailed Breakdown
Design and Build
The boAt Nirvana Ion earbuds stand out in their price segment with a fresh take on design. Unlike typical cookie-cutter cases resembling AirPods, the Ion features a polished matte plastic body with a sleek metal rim showcasing the brand logo. The pebble-shaped case, available in white or black, includes a central LED for charging status, adding a touch of elegance. The earbuds sport a minimalist matte white finish with boAt’s logo and a subtle textured design, complementing the premium feel.
Comfort is another highlight, with the earbuds fitting securely and offering different silicon ear tip sizes for a customized fit. They are suitable for extended wear, remaining comfortable even after hours of use. Connectivity is seamless, with the earbuds quickly pairing and maintaining a stable connection without random disconnects. Overall, the boAt Nirvana Ion delivers impressive build quality and design, exceeding expectations for its price range.
Connections and Controls
boAt Nirvana Ion employs Bluetooth 5.2 technology for establishing its wireless connections. The good news is that the connection remains incredibly stable, and I didn’t encounter any disruptions or dropouts during my usage.
However, it’s important to note that you can connect these earbuds to just one device at a time; there’s no support for multipoint connectivity. This means you’ll need to disconnect from one device before connecting to another.
Similarly, it possesses a rapid detection function that enables the earbud to automatically establish a connection with the paired device upon opening the case. The latency of these buds is minimal at ~60ms.
The earbuds are equipped with capacitive touch controls, which are highly responsive and user-friendly. These controls allow you to manage your audio experience with ease.

Audio and Mic
The boAt Nirvana Ion earbuds deliver a signature boAt sound that leans towards a bass-heavy profile, making it ideal for those who enjoy punchy beats, especially with party music. However, if you prefer classical or softer genres, you might find the treble lacking clarity, as the focus is more on the lows and mids. While the audio is pleasant for certain types of music, it may not satisfy everyone’s preferences, particularly those looking for detailed highs.
Although these earbuds lack Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), they provide good passive isolation, effectively muffling most ambient noises. The included ear tips and fins contribute to this isolation, though some wind noises and conversations may still filter through, which is generally acceptable considering the price point.
Smart features like in-ear detection add convenience by automatically pausing music when you remove an earbud and resuming it when you put it back. The Beast Mode, boasting a low latency of 60ms, is targeted at gamers, though the difference in performance may not be noticeable to all users. Additionally, the boAt Hearables app, compatible with Android and iOS, offers OTA updates, audio customization, and battery monitoring, enhancing the overall user experience.
In terms of call performance, the earbuds deliver decent quality, which is often satisfactory for their price range. However, it’s important to note that the mic performance of TWS earbuds like these won’t match that of wired microphones, though this is generally expected in this wireless earbuds category. Overall, the boAt Nirvana Ion earbuds offer a good blend of features and performance, especially for users seeking a bass-forward audio experience with convenient smart functionalities.
Battery and Charging
boAt advertises a promising playback time of 24 hours for the Nirvana Ion earbuds and up to 120 hours with the charging case. In my usage, the earbuds nearly matched this claim, as I found that using them for 3-4 hours at a time only depleted the battery by around 25 percent. Additionally, I only needed to charge the case approximately once every 8 or 9 days. When completely drained, the case takes about 90 minutes to fully recharge, ensuring minimal downtime between uses.
