MediaTek currently holds 33% of the global market share according to the Q4 report by counterpoint. MediaTek SoCs are gaining great popularity at the mid-range and upper mid-range segments. With all this in its hand, MediaTek has just announced two new high-end SoC, Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000. Let’s have a closer look into these Systems on a Chip.Â
MediaTek 8100 & 8000 Overview
CPU & GPU
Both Dimensity 8100 and 8000 have similar CPU structures with our Cortex-A78 big CPU cores and four A55 little ones. The only difference is Dimensity 8100 has a max frequency of 2.85GHz whereas 8000 maxes out at 2.75 GHz. These Octa-core CPUs are complained by Mali-G610 MC6 GPU which is manufactured using ARM’s latest GPU architecture.
On the GPU side of things, MediaTek says that the GPU on the Dimensity 8100 is 20% faster compared to the 8000. Testing from MediaTek showed the 8100 hitting 170 fps in GFXBench Manhattan, the 8000 did 140 fps. Both the SoC support LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Image Signal Processor (ISP)
MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and 8000 SoC are equipped with Imagiq 780 ISP which supports upto 200 MP camera with max video resolution of 4K upto 60fps. The ISP can also handle 5 gigapixels per second and can record HDR+ videos too. On the photography side of things, it supports2X lossless Zoom, HDR imaging, and AI noise reduction.
APU and Connectivity
On the APU side of things, MediaTek is using its 5th Gen APU, APU 580. This APU is mostly focused on optics and gaming. Talking about the connectivity, both the SoCs are equipped with 3GPP Release 16 5G Modems which supports two carrier aggregations for up to 200 MHz of bandwidth and allows maximum download speeds upto 4.7Gbps. We also get Dual 5G support with Dual standby. Talking about WiFi we get Wi-Fi 6E (2×2) support, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth LE Audio with Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio.
