Google Pixel 8 Pro Overview:
Design and Display:
The Pixel 8 Pro retains the familiar full-length camera bar seen on the Pixel 7 Pro, but with a single oval-shaped camera cutout instead of the previous two. Additionally, the camera flash has been slightly repositioned to accommodate the temperature sensor placed beneath it.
The front of the 8 Pro maintains a familiar appearance, but Google has introduced significant enhancements. They’ve introduced the new “Super Actua” display, featuring a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 1244 x 2992 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.
The real upgrade here is that the Super Actua display has 1,600 nits of HDR brightness and a peak brightness of up to 2,400 nits. That makes it one of the brightest phone displays currently available. More so than the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Performance:
In this year’s Pixel lineup, the driving force behind the devices is the formidable Google Tensor G3, accompanied by the robust Titan M2 security coprocessor. Notably, the Pixel 8 Pro boasts a substantial 12GB of RAM for enhanced performance. Also, the storage option on this device goes from 128GB to 1TB as well.
Camera:
The Google Pixel phones are famous for their cameras as well. On the rear we have a 50MP main camera lens, offering the same 1.2μm pixel size as the Pixel 7 Pro. The same is true of the 1/1.31-inch sensor, though the aperture has increased to f/1.68. This camera comes with a “2x Optical Quality” which is a fancy way of saying it can digitally mimic 2x zoom magnification similar to an iPhone 15.
The ultrawide camera lens resolution has risen to 48MP this year, along with a 0.8μm pixel width, an f/1.95 aperture, and a 125.5-degree field of view. The telephoto lens is also 48MP, with 0.7μm pixel width, f/2.8 aperture, and 5x optical zoom. As ever the Pixel 8 Pro has Google’s Super Res Zoom technology, which digitally enhances magnification up to 30x. Over on the front, we have a 10.5MP selfie camera with 1.2μm pixel width, f/2.2 aperture, and Autofocus as well.
Battery and other features:
The Pixel 8 Pro boasts a substantial 5,050mAh battery, providing ample power to keep you going throughout the day. When it comes to charging, it supports 30W wired charging, utilizing technologies like PD3.0 and PPS. This means that you can charge up to 50% of your battery in just 30 minutes, as advertised. Additionally, it supports 23W wireless charging for convenient cable-free charging.
The Pixel 8 Pro offers secure under-display fingerprint unlocking and comes in stylish colors like Obsidian, Porcelain, and Bay. It’s equipped with tri-band WiFi 6e/7 for fast internet, Bluetooth 5.3 for seamless device connections, and NFC for contactless payments.
