After all those teasing and rumors POCO has finally launched its new device in India. It’s POCO M2 Pro. POCO has always been marketed with the tagline “Everything you need and nothing you don’t. So following the same trend they have come up with their new device. Unlike the POCO F2 Pro which was launched a few months ago in Europe, M2 Pro is a mid-ranger.
POCO this time went with a handful of Indian YouTubers for the launch of their new device. The device was launched through an online-only event along with those YouTubers. So without any further delays, let’s see what it has to offer and is it any good even after being a rebrand.
So as it’s a POCO device, let’s start with what they are known the most, the performance.
Performance & Power
Poco M2 Pro ships with Qualcomm snapdragon 720G. It’s quite a capable chipset under the mid-range segment. It’s an 8nm octa-core SoC with 2 kryo 465 Gold @ 2.3Ghz and 6 kryo 465 silver cores clocked @ 1.8Ghz. For the GPU side of things, we have Adreno 618 GPU. So this chipset is capable of producing some serious performance under the mid-range segment. on the Note 9 Pro (Indian) this chipset have an Antutu score of 279423.
Let it be Hours of gaming or day to day task Poco will handle it like a champ. So if performance is what you are interested in then Poco M2 Pro might be your next mid-range device as it also packs LPDDR4X Ram and a UFS 2.1 Storage.
For handling all this we have a 5000 mAh large battery. Unlike Note 9 Pro it has a 33W fast Charing support via USB C.
Design & Display
The design of this device is exactly what you got with the Redmi Note 9 Pro (Indian). We have a similar glass sandwich design with gorilla glass 5 on the front and back. At the front, we have a 6.67 inches FHD+ IPS display with a 60Hz refresh rate.
It’s a punch-hole display. With a centrally placed cut out at the top. At the back, we have the same quad-camera bump. While we have the fingerprint scanner on the power button on the right side of the device. But instead of Redmi, we see a Poco branding here. We also get a new color finish with the Poco.
Optics
Here too their no difference. We get a quad rear camera setup with a 48MP f/1.8 primary sensor. Its the Samsung GM2 sensor. It is held together by an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide-angle lens. While the rest of the two are 2MP each Macro cam and a Depth sensor. We have seen this camera setup producing great results with on Note 9 Pro. So we expect something similar to this one. Poco added Vlog mode in the Video camera features which we don’t have on the Note. While at the front we get a 16MP shooter with support for HDR & Panorama Selfies along with night mode.
Software & Features
Poco M2 Pro comes with MIUI 11 on top of Android 10. It has Poco Launcher pre-installed. The device will soon be getting MIUI 12 update. We won’t be getting ads on this version of MIUI. It also has Xiaomi’s signature IR blaster at the top. It comes with USB Type C v2.1, P2i splash-proof body, and Bluetooth v5. It also has an IR blaster on the top for controlling appliances.
Poco M2 Pro Price & Availability
In India, we get the 4GB+64GB variant of the device for INR 13,999/- (~NPR 22,398) which is similar to Redmi Note 9 Pro in India. While for the 6GB+64GB you have to pay INR 14,999/- (~NPR 23,998). Whereas the top of the line variant of the POCO M2 Pro is priced for INR 16,999/- (~NPR 27,198).
Bummer from POCO
So basically it’s another Rebranded Poco device. It’s quite disappointing cause two years back POCO won our hearts with their Poco f1. After that people were keen on the next Poco device. Back after a year in 2020 Poco has just launched three different rebranded devices. Here to Poco M2 Pro is the Rebranding of Indian Redmi Note 9 Pro with a different back from the Global Remdi Note 9.
