Qualcomm announces snapdragon satellite for all androids. 

CES Qualcomm has announced the Qualcomm Snapdragon Satellite partnered with Iridium at CES 2023. The function is available for Android smartphones and brings support for satellite communication during emergencies. Let’s get into it. 

About Snapdragon satellite: 

The snapdragon satellite is supporting two-way messaging for emergency use, SMS texting, and “other messaging applications”. The company states that the satellite feature will not only come in handy in emergencies. Snapdragon Satellite will support 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) as they become available.

With this feature, users can be able to use the service with existing phone numbers. Generally in an emergency situation how the feature work is, users can contact someone for help even in a remote area without cell service. Then the SOS is sent to the helper, In which

“response coordinators immediately see the customer’s Latitude/Longitude in their proprietary mapping and response coordination software to determine the appropriate agency to coordinate the rescue.”

The snapdragon satellite will be available in smartphones that pack Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and the Snapdragon X70 modem system, along with some additional radios. The company says that smartphones with support for this new feature should be launched in select regions starting in the second half of this year. It added that there are several manufacturers working on adding this feature to their devices.

As per price, there haven’t been any details provided by the company. The company says that the emergency service will be free or very cheap which will be a plus point.
