Qualcomm has announced the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The company has unveiled the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with a better CPU, GPU, and efficiency. Let’s have a look at the specifications of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and its availability.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Overview:
Qualcomm has improved the CPU performance by 10% as compared with the 8 Gen 1 SoC. It brings up to 3.2Ghz of peak frequency which was previously just 3Ghz. At the same time, the old Snapdragon 870 can also go up to 3.2Ghz of clock speed. Other cores also get the frequency upgrade as the Gold cores are clocked at 2.75Ghz at the Silver cores are at 2.0GHz.
Similarly, the chipset comes with a 30% improvement in power efficiency for the CPU with its new frequencies. The frequency of GPU has also improved by 10% bringing a 30% GPU power reduction. At last, the AI Engine has a 20% improvement from its predecessor. Moreover, the chipset is based on 4nm TSMC architecture.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 comes with an X65 5G Modem that comes with a peak download speed of 10Gbps. Likewise, it supports up to 3.6Gbps download speed via Wi-Fi connection. It comes with support for (2.4/5/6Ghz) Wi-Fi 6E, 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
There is not much improvement in the camera department as it supports up to the same 8k@30fps and 4k@120fps resolution video recording. Similarly, the chipset supports a 4k display at 60Hz and QHD at 144Hz. It comes with support for the same LPDDR5 RAM and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Availability
We will start seeing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 from July in varieties of phones. Different companies like Xiaomi, Asus, Motorola, and Realme have already announced that their next flagship will feature this latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm.
We expect the upcoming devices like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, and many more flagships to come with this new chipset.
What to expect from this New SoC?
As per the company claims, there will be good improvements in CPU and GPU. As the chipset will consume less power, the heating issue we are facing with different phones like Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and many more with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is expected to be solved. We will find that out and give you our thoughts when we review the new phone with the 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
Other specifications are almost similar between 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1. So, except for the performance, the company hasn’t upgraded much of the hardware on this latest SoC.
