Redmi’s K series was a hit last year. Redmi also launched the K30 series earlier this year. Under the same K30 lineup, Redmi launched yet another mid-range 5G device and it’s the Redmi K30i 5G. It was a silent launch in China. Its design and specs are identical to the Redmi K30 5G, which was launched back in December 2019. Whereas there is one major difference in the optics department as the newly launched K30i packs 48MP the main shooter in place of 64MP of Redmi K30 5G.
Design & Display
At the front Redmi K30i 5G comes with a 6.7 inch IPS LCD display with 120Hz of refresh rate. It’s a FHD+ panel with Gorilla Glass 5. It’s a TUV Rheinland certified display with HDR10 compatibility. Unlike the pop-up camera of the Redmi K30 Pro, here we get dual selfie cameras fitted in a pill-shaped cutout on the top right side of the display.
We get volume rockers and power buttons on the right side of the device. Here the power button also doubles up as a Fingerprint sensor. At the back we have a glass back with Redmi branding and a quad-camera setup in a 3D circular design. Just below it we have a dual led flash and a 5G branding. Now let’s talk about those cameras as we have six of them in this one.
Optics
We have a dual selfie camera setup with a 20 MP main shooter with f/2.2 aperture which is accompanied by a 2 MP depth sensor. At the front Device supports HDR selfies and video recording up to 1080p at 30 fps. At the rear side we get a quad-camera setup with Sony’s 48 MP main shooter with f/1.79 aperture and PDAF which supports video recording up to 4K at 60fps.

The next lens on the list is an 8MP f/2.2 Ultra-wide camera while the rest two are 5MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. This is not something new. OEMs are including depth and macros just to increase the camera count. Rather than doing so, it would be better if they had included a Telephoto lens and autofocus in the ultra-wide for the macro shots. With this setup Let’s see how the K30i 5G performs in the camera department.
Power & Performance
Here Redmi went with the best mid-range processor available at the time from Qualcomm. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. Here the chip is coupled with 6 GB of LPDDR4X Ram and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. All this performance and 120hz display are backed up by a 4500mAh battery which supports fast-charging up to 30W.
Software & Features
Redmi K30i 5G comes with MIUI 11 based on Android OS out of the box. The device comes with a dual sim slot and 5G support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, dual-frequency GPS, USB-C, Smart PA loudspeaker, Hi-Res audio support, and also a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Recently Huawei also launched an affordable 5G smartphone, Huawei Enjoy Z 5G with Dimensity 800 processor in China. 5G smartphone used to be available only in high-end devices a few months ago but these days 5G is common in mid-range smartphones too. We hope affordable 5G smartphones will make their way to the Nepali market as well. Will you buy 5G mid-range smartphones if they launched in Nepal? Let us know in the comment section below.
