At the back, we get glass on the Note 9 Pro Max whereas Samsung has gone with a plastic back on the Galaxy M31. This plastic back makes the Galaxy M31 much lighter even after having a monstrous 6000mAh battery.
Performance & Software
If better performance is what you want Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is the clear winner here with its Snapdragon 720G (8nm). Its an octa-core SoC with 2×2.3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold (Cortex-A76) & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 465 (Cortex-A56) Silver cores and Adreno 618 GPU. Though the M31 is not a bad performing device. It has Exynos 9611 (10nm), with 4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 and Mali-G72 MP3. We get UFS 2.1 on both the devices and 6GB and 8GB RAM variants.
Talking about the software, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max runs on MIUI 11 on top of Android 10 whereas Samsung has it’s own One UI 2.0 on top of Android 10. Different people have different choices when it comes to software, so we let you decide which one you prefer. Let us know in the comment section below.
Optics
The Camera is yet another department where both of these devices show some similarities. Taking about the specs on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max we get 64MP f/1.8 main shooter with 8MP f/2.2 Ultra-wide along with 5MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. Similarly, on Galaxy M31, we get 64MP f/1.8 primary camera along with 8MP f/2.2 Ultra-wide and 5MP each macro and depth camera. While on the front we get 32MP shooter on both. The on the Samsung is capable of recording 4K@30fps. Both of these are good when it comes to the camera with all regular features like HDR, Night-Mode, Panorama, etc. You won’t regret choosing any one of them for Cameras.
Battery
Samsung has done an excellent job here with a 6000mAh battery without making the device much heavy. But you have to charge it with a 15W slow charger which is a bummer. While on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max we get a 5020mAh with the 33W Super Fast charging. Though Redmi has a smaller battery it covers it up with a much faster charger. We could expect a somewhat similar battery life in both as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has an 8nm SoC while Samsung has 10nm SoC with Super Amoled Display.
