A new research has been conducted among the various smartphone manufacturers to determine which are the most sustainable, ecological, and environmentally safe products for the green earth. Well, the good news here is Samsung has ranked to become the 4rth most sustainable OEM after Apple, Google, and Sony.Â
The study was based on certain criteria that include the calculation of the following points such as:
- Direct greenhouse gas emission increase/decrease over the past year
- Carbon neutrality
- Net zero target
- Plastic packaging reduction
- 100% renewable energy
- The proportion of waste recycled
- Recycling target
- Percentage of recycled materials
- Number of devices recycled
The reason Samsung failed to get on the top was its failure to attain carbon neutrality and its future net zero targets of 2050. Moreover, Samsung has also increased its GHG emissions by 13% over the same time.
Apple ranked first among all due to its attainment of carbon neutrality and its 2030 net-zero targets. Furthermore, it has also achieved 100% renewable energy and lowered its direct GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions by 9.96% compared to a year ago.
Though Samsung failed to be on top this time, we highly expect the company will achieve its carbon neutrality and net zero targets in the coming days with a decrease in its GHG emissions. However, Samsung succeeded to became 4rth by sweeping behind other top brands such as Vivo, Huawei, Oppo, Alcatel, Motorola, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.Â
