Inside The Box
For this phone also we can get a pretty slim box as it doesn’t have a charging brick inside the box. Except for the charging brick I got almost all the necessary items like a SIM ejecting tool, USB Type-C to Type-C Cable, some documents, and of course, a Galaxy A24 phone itself.
Look and Feel
The confidence while holding this phone in hand is really good as I personally have a habit of dropping phones from my hand too much but with this phone, I didn’t have to face this issue because it has a boxy slab design. With a weight of 195 Grams and a thickness of 8.3 mm, the phone does feel light to hold in hand too. Personally sharing, despite having a plastic back and frame the phone feels smooth in hand. Yes, the smooth back also brings the problem of the back being a fingerprint magnet but after applying the cover to the phone fingerprint magnet was no longer a problem.
I love Samsungs decision to give the back design of its premium phones in all its phone with different price ranges. The clean back design with simplistic branding and the cool reflecting effect of its back camera rings really impressed me.
Display
Galaxy A24 has a really nice display, even directly under bright day sunlight I was able to easily use this phone at full brightness and the screen was nicely visible. The screen refresh rate of 90hz also makes the screen buttery smooth to use while scrolling social media and news portals.
While watching videos, the content does look vibrant which makes the screen great for content consumption. This is also possible because the dark gets darker and the bright gets brighter and colors pop nicely. Yes, the bezel and teardrop noch camera feels outdated in 2023 but considering a huge Super AMOLED 6.5-inch display the bezel and teardrop do not disturb the overall experience.
Performance
Talking about how smoothly the phone behaves, we must start with which chip it bears. It has a Mediatek Helio G99 processor, unlike its typical devices which has mostly Exynos processor. The octa-core processor accompanies with Mali-G57 MC2 Graphical Processing Unit to make sure the phone runs well.
Helio G99 is the most powerful processor under Rs. 30K in Nepal currently making Galaxy A24 4G the best value-for-money phone. This octa-core processor can easily handle heavy applications like Google and Microsoft applications and if you also use video editing applications in your phone, Galaxy A24 can easily handle those applications as well.
I also did some bench tests and CPU throttling too and Galaxy A24 was able to handle those challenges very easily. While CPU Throttling the CPU performed really well and did not drop below 95%. While testing phone scored 166,534 GIPS max CPU throttling, in GeekBench score was 713 in single-core & 1935 multi-core in CPU bench and 1265 in GPU bench, & 390231 in ANTUTU Bench.
I also played some games on this phone and it also performed really well. I played PUBG, COD & Genshin Impact on this phone and scores are shown below.
Game | Graphics | FPS |
PUBG | Smooth | Very High (40) |
COD | Medium | High (60) |
Genshin Impact | Lowest (Default) | Smooth (30) |
This gaming performance is really impressive and best compared to phones around 30K in Nepal. Helio G99 processor and Gyro sensor are available in other phones too but there is the issue of Gyro delay in other phones but in Galaxy A24, Gyro works perfectly. So, this phone is considered the best gaming phone under 30000 in Nepal.
Software
Galaxy A24 comes with Android 13 and One UI 5.1 out of the box. One UI is one of the smoothest and sexiest UI available in the Nepali market. With a clean user interface and easy user experience One UI has always proven to be best.
There are some Samsung and Microsoft pre-installed apps already on the phone and recommended apps while setting up the phones can be seen but they can easily be ignored and skipped. There is no lag or freeze issue in Galaxy A24 that I had to face, the UI works as smoothly as melted butter.
If we follow the news source of international media, this phone is getting OS update support for 4 years and security patch updates of 5 years but according to Samsung Nepal, Galaxy A24 will get OS update support for 2 years and security update support for 4 years in Nepal making Galaxy A24 still the perfect choice if you’re looking for a phone for long-term use.
Camera
- Back Camera
In good daylight condition, the images taken from the normal camera of Galaxy A24 comes with good details, and there is very less to almost no noise ratio in the image. Colors also seem vibrant which makes photos taken in Galaxy A24 ready for social media.
Auto Focus (AF) on Galaxy A24 works really well and it captures the subject very fast and effectively. The photos taken with a 50-megapixel camera capture more details of the image and the photos are really good to look at.
Portrait images also look really good with proper background blurring in normal scale. While zooming in, I was noticing that the camera was struggling to find the edge of the object in some parts but viewing the image at a normal scale it is not noticeable, and if you’re taking images for social media image quality is more than good enough to upload.
In the case of ultrawide images, 5-megapixel ultrawide camera photos have a good HDR effect making both highlighted and shadowed parts equally exposed. I personally liked it but for people who prefer more natural lighting in photography, opinions may differ.
Night photography is something Samsung should have given more focus on Galaxy A24 because the skin tone in night mode photos comes very unnatural and they do feel weird.
Videos are also good if taken under good lighting conditions and OIS does help to improve the video quality. OIS doesn’t stabilize the videos but it does control the rough shakiness of the video making it a bit more smooth also improving the video quality.
- Front Camera
I found 13-megapixel selfies also to be good with proper detail if captured under good lighting conditions. Potrate and wide-angle images also do not disappoint and overall the photos taken from the selfie camera of Galaxy A24 have good quality in them. Videos from a selfie camera also do not disappoint and come with rich quality if taken under good lighting conditions.
I found the night photos taken from the selfie camera are slightly better than the back camera. Images taken in low lighting with night mode on have more details than the images taken with normal mode on.
Battery
The 5,000 mAh battery really impressed me as it lasted long and some days it even gave me backup for more than one-and-half-day. Maybe it is possible because of the processor used here as it is very power efficient which ends up in high battery backup. In casual cases of just scrolling social media, sending snaps, and taking photos here and there, this phone will easily last until the end of the day and it still had a 15% to 18% charge left before I went to sleep.
But suppose you are playing games, making vlogs, and editing videos on your phone on the same day. In that case, you might have to put this phone in charge before the end of the day but it won’t be an issue because 25W fast charging supports this phone will charge this phone just under 1 & half hours from zero to 100% but you’ll have to use 25W charger.
Extra Features
- Security
Samsung has given all security features in Galaxy A24 to keep the phone safe. Pin, Password, and Pattern come with face unlock and fingerprint sensor. And the best part is the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which is faster and safer in budget phones compared to in-display fingerprints and provides a better user experience compared to the back fingerprint sensor.
And side-mounted fingerprints can also be used to set gestures to handle different tasks such as bringing out the notification and command center.
- Speaker
Galaxy A24 has a single speaker which is at the bottom is loud and clear enough to enjoy my favorite songs and movies.
Verdict
The fact that this phone with all these capabilities and great specs is available at this price is really impressive. Galaxy A24 provides great value for money and as written above this is the best phone under 30,000 that can do it all. With this level of good performance and long-term software update support, I can confidently suggest this phone to people who are looking for a good phone with a budget of Nepali Rs. 30,000.
