Display & Design

Samsung here is giving a phone with a plastic back at the price tag of above  1 lakh. Whereas on the OnePlus 8 Pro, we get Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back. Talking about the back, we get a triple camera setup on the Note 20, whereas a quad-camera setup on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Here both the devices packs gorgeous display. But One Plus wins here with 6.78 inches QHD+ Fluid Amoled display. This display supports a 120Hz high refresh rate display.

While on Samsung’s side, we get a 6.7 inches FHD+ Super Amoled display with just a 60Hz refresh rate. Both the screen here is HDR10+ certified. OnePlus display has curved around the edges with a punch hole at the top left corner while the Samsung has a flat panel with a cut out for selfie camera at the top center.

Performance & Software

On the Performance side of thing, here in Nepal, we are getting the same Exynos 990, which we got with the Galaxy S20 series. This is an Octa-core SoC with x2.73 GHz Mongoose M5 & 2×2.50 GHz Cortex-A76 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 with Mali-G77 MP11. This SoC is considered less power full compare to Snapdragon 865, which we get on One Plus 8 Pro.

Qualcomm snapdragon 865 features 1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585 with Adreno 650 GPU. Here both the devices have faster UFS 3.0 storage. Snapdragon 865 on the OnePlus 8 Pro also supports the 5G network.

Long story short, If you play heavy graphic games like PUBG mobile, go with OnePlus 8 Pro, If not then you will be happy with the performance of any one of these devices.

Talking about the Software, we get Clean and stock looking Oxygen OS with various Customization on the OnePlus 8 Pro, whereas we get Samsung’s One Ui 2.5 on Note 20. Software preference differs from person to person, but if you ask my choice, I love Oxygen OS more.

Optics

Here we see some more differences between both of the devices. On OnePlus 8 Pro, we get 48MP f/1.8 Primary shooter along with an 8MP f/2.4 3X optical zoom lens, 48MP f/2.2 Ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP color filter camera. While at the front, we have a 16MP f/2.5 selfie shooter.

Whereas on the Galaxy Note 20, we have a 12MP f/1.8 primary camera, a 64MP f/2.0 Telephoto camera with 3X hybrid optical zoom, and a 12MP f/2.2 Ultra-wide lens. At the front, we have got a 10MP f/2.2 shooter, which is capable of recording videos up to 4K @60fps.  You can shoot 4k @ 60fps with rear cameras on both the devices. Samsung’s rear camera can also shoot 8K @24fps with its zoom camera.

Both devices will offer great images on both daylight and lowlight scenarios.

Battery

OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 20, both are a large and premium flagship, and they pack large capacity batteries too. On Galaxy Note 20, we get a 4300mAh battery with 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. While on the OnePlus 8 Pro, we get a bigger 4510mAh battery with much faster 30W faster charging both wired and wirelessly.  Both have 7nm SoC and an AMOLED display, so battery life should not be a problem. On Samsung, you get a Full HD+ display with just a 60Hz refresh rate panel, so battery life should not be a problem.

Pricing

Price was the main reason why we have compared these two devices. OnePlus 8 Pro Nepali pricing starts at Rs. 1,10,000 for 8GB+128GB variant and Rs. 1,25,000 for 12GB+256GB. While Samsung Galaxy Note 20(4G)  (8+256GB) will cost you  Rs. 109,999.
