Samsung Galaxy S22+ vs OnePlus 10 Pro: Overview

Design and Display:

If we look at the design, Samsung here has gone with its last year’s design similar to that of the S21+ with a similar camera hump and Glass back. While if you look at the OnePlus 10 Pro, it looks like it is somewhat inspired by Samsung’s design though we have a square design with a curved display at the front. Talking about that display, Samsung always leads at the display front but this time looks like OnePlus has worked out really well.

OnePlus 10 Pro features a 6.7 inches, LTPO2 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach the max brightness of 1300 nits with a 2K resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels. While on the Samsung Galaxy S22+ we get a Full Hd Display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, this is also a Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and can go upto maximum brightness of 1750 nits.

Talking about the protection Samsung Galaxy S22+ features Gorilla Glass victus+ while the OnePlus 10 Pro comes with a generation-old Gorilla Glass Victus. OnePlus also lacks an IP rating, we get IP68 certification for dust and water resistance on the Samsung Galaxy S22+. Also, we have seen OnePlus 10 Pro failed miserably in Jerry Rig Everything’s durability test

Camera

If you talk about the cameras in the Android department, Samsung leads it with its optimization and stable camera performance. On the Samsung Galaxy S22+, we get a triple camera setup at the back with 50 MP, f/1.8 Primary camera along with OIS, a 10MP f/2.4 3x optical zoom camera and the last one is the 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view. The device can record 8K videos upto 30fps and 4K upto 60 fps from its rear camera setup. While at the front we are treated with a 10MP f/2.2 sensor with Dual PDAF which is also capable of recording 4K videos upto 60fps.

While the camera setup on the OnePlus 10 Pro consists of a 48MP f/1.8 shooter with multi-directional PDAF, Laser AF, OIS, accompanying this is an 8 MP, f/2.4 3.3x optical zoom with PDAF & OIS, and the last one is a 50 MP, f/2.2, 150Ëš field of view ultrawide camera with AF and these are tuned by Hasselblad. The device can record 8K videos at 24FPS and 4K upto 60fps from its rear camera setup. While at the front OnePlus 10 Pro features a 32MP f/2.2 sensor though it can only record at 1080P upto 30fps and also lacks autofocus.

Performance & Software

This is where these devices have the most similarities. Both the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. This is an octa-core SoC with 1×3.00 GHz Cortex-X2 & 3×2.50 GHz Cortex-A710 & 4×1.80 GHz Cortex-A510 CPU cores, while the Samsung maxes out at 2.8 GHz. Along with that, we get Adreno 730 GPU. Talking about the storage variant, the OnePLus 10 Pro features 12GB RAM, and the S22+ maxes out at 8GB. We get LPDDR5 RAM on both devices. On the storage front, we get 256GB UFS 3.1 storage on both devices. So, we have to test how the performance of both the devices fares out in the real world.

Samsung has a real advantage when it comes to software. Both the devices are running on the latest Android 12. We get Samsung’s own One Ui 4.1 on top while the OnePlus 10 Pro runs on Oxygen OS 12. Oneplus Oxygen OS was considered as one of the best Android skins, but due to its collaboration with Oppo and the influence of Color OS on OnePlus devices have changed people’s perspective about the Oxygen OS.

On the other hand, Samsung is really getting praised for its latest Oxygen OS 4. Samsung is always known for its regular updates and stable software performance. This time Samsung has also promised 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security updates on their S22 series of devices. While the update situation in OnePlus is still not clear. We could get some info from the OnePlus officials once it gets launched Globally on the 31st of March.
