Is the new Samsung Galaxy ZFlip3 really worth the hype?
Due to the new technology and the flappable nature of the phone, it is more of a high-end and luxury product, but still considering the fact that Zflip 3 is in the affordable price when it comes to foldable phones out in the market since Samsung presented it in the more attainable range. And more people can get their hands on it than ever before. The flipping ability of the phone makes it pocket-friendly and super attainable to fit inside the pocket. It seems even more favorable for women since women’s clothing has very small pockets and normal big rectangular screens are almost impossible to fit in. whereas, this small square can be easily adjusted and carried around in a pocket.
Design and Durability
Talking about the durability of the Samsung Galaxy Zflip3, Samsung took it pretty seriously this time. They have upgraded their game this time. The display is 80% more durable in comparison to the previous Galaxy Zflip. The cover shell is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and its frame is made up of Aluminum. The Flip3 also features IPX8 water resistance. This means this phone can easily handle all the splashes of water and you can even dunk this phone underwater and it would be in a good state but still it is not recommended to do it.Â
Talking about Cover Display, it is something that is majorly upgraded and enhanced in comparison to the old ones. One of the major complaints in the last series was how small the display was and how difficult to use. Whereas, the Zflip 3 has a 1.9 inch Super AMOLED display which is super easy to use due to its big screen along with having other features such as clicking pictures and selfies, checking notifications, listening to music, clock and remaining widgets could be adjusted as per preference. It is one of the major highlight features of Zflip3. The gorilla glass protection also makes it scratch-resistant.
The main attractive point of Zflip is its flip-able ability on its main screen. When unfolded a small square phone turns into a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display along with a 120Hz refresh rate which gives this phone that silky smooth feel and experience while using it. The phone has a resolution of 1080*2640 pixels( Full HD+) which provides a truly amazing viewing experience.
However, one thing that is similar to the old flip one is the crease across in the middle of the interior screen. The crease in the main screen is very noticeable visually and in physical touch too. The image distortion is especially visible under direct sunlight and can be felt while touching the screen. It is not a major deal breaker but everyone has a different preference.Â
Camera and Picture Quality
While focusing on the camera itself, it is not very impressive in comparison to the price paid for the device. The phone comes with a dual-camera at the back which also acts as the main camera for the cover screen having the main camera of 12MP (f/1.8) wide-angle shooter and a 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide one.
The front camera for selfies has 10MP with an af/2.4 aperture. But, this phone does not have a telephoto lens which usually is available in phones of this range. Galaxy S21 has a much better camera with enhanced picture quality and also comes with a telephoto lens. The selfie camera seems fine while it applies a little smoothing effect but also not much revolutionary.Â
When it comes to recording video from Galaxy Zflip3, it is pretty crisp and sharp since it records video at up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. One of the major advantages of Zflip3 is this phone can be folded in half and the bottom section can be rested or be used as a stand to record video and can go hands-free. This feature is useful while being on a video chat or recording videos for Tiktok and especially for all the Vloggers out there.
Battery life
Samsung Galaxy Zflip3 comes with a battery of 3300 mAh, which is similar to the old Galaxy Zflip. The battery is not very impressive since Galaxy S21 comes with a battery of 4400 mAh. The battery life can be a concern for many since it might only last for a day if used on a mild basis such as social media and other stuff. Another letdown when it comes to Galaxy Zflip3 is although this phone supports 25 watts it is only provided with a 15-watt charger therefore, charging can feel a little slower. Wireless charging on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 caps out at an even slower 10W.Â
Performance
Galaxy Zflip3 is featured with Snapdragon 888 which is built under 5nm architecture which makes it power efficient and super-fast in processing. Games that support higher refresh rates can be played very efficiently without any frame drop. But, the drawback is the battery life. We even did the thermal throttling test, the device was able to manage the heat comfortably.
Along with the Snapdragon SoC, you are getting Adreno 660 GPU so, it can handle any graphic intensive game you through at it. The Storage used here is also a faster UFS 3.1 storage, so it doesn’t take much time to install games and apps or even copying files. Also due to its 8GB, LPDDR5 RAM running multiple apps in the background won’t be difficult for this Samsung flagship.Â
Software and Internal Hardware
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with Android 11 and One UI 3.1, with an Android 12 update on the horizon. Similar to other Samsung’s phone it provides three software updates and security update upto the span of four years. Also, the graphics are handled by Adreno 660. Samsung’s security and updates are pretty better in comparison to other android phones. Samsung has provided many software updates and enhancements which literally act as a cherry on top. Also, the Flex mode leads to splitting the UI elements into two displays. But, there weren’t many apps that could use this Flex Mode.
Conclusion
In the end, our final thoughts on Samsung Galaxy Zflip3 it is one of the revolutionary phones which is actually practical in nature not just an experiment of modern advanced engineering. This device is Pocket Friendly and can be easily carried around and is a boon, especially for women. The cover screen is very impressive and is far better than the previous flip version. So, the upgraded Cover Screen and a 120Hz refresh rate along with the IPX8 rating, make the Flip 3 a worthy upgrade over the last Flip. It’s not trying to be a tablet-like Fold 3, it has a different approach, and it excels in being a compact flagship when it is unfolded. If you are fond of trying a new tech and in search of an Android flagship that is different from the rest, then Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 might be a perfect choice for you.   Â
