TikTok sets teenagers’ screen time limits to one hour

TikTok one of the most popular social platforms that have billion of active users has now taken a step towards screen limit and criticism of mindless scrolling. Now the app has set a one-hour limit for its teen users under 18. The app has also set the screen limit has been enabled with the default.

TikTok’s this move is quite a step for its constant criticism of how the app has distracted users mindlessly due to endless scrolling. The company has set a one-hour limit where users need to enter a passcode to continue scrolling. This aims to prevent the toxic culture of online and digital screening, especially the vulnerable teenagers. 

The company has actually consulted with researchers and experts from the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital as well. Cormac Keenan, TikTok’s head of trust and safety states that the consultation was decided on what should the teen usage limits. 

He states “While there’s no collectively-endorsed position on how much screen time is ‘too much’, or even the impact of screen time more broadly, we recognize that teens typically require extra support as they start to explore the online world independently.”

However, this feature isn’t a mandatory issue and can be disabled through settings.
