Youtube is once again featuring new upgrades for creators in users. Youtube has introduced channel handles for users and channel creators alike so they can connect to each other more easily. The feature is similar to the Instagram handles which are available for every profile. Youtube on Twitter announced youtube handles, in which youtube states existing channel URLs, names, etc will continue to work and youtube will notify for handles.
Team youtube states:
“We want to ensure creators can craft an identity as unique as their content while giving viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favorite creators,” said YouTube in a blog post announcing the development.
YouTube is rolling this feature out gradually because each hangle has to be unique and every channel on YouTube must have one. A channel’s overall YouTube presence, subscriber count, and whether the channel is active or inactive, amongst other factors will play into the timing of when the creator will get access to the handles selection process.
Process:
When a creator chooses their handle on YouTube, the tech giant will also create a matching URL (ex: youtube.com/@handle) so content creators can easily direct people to their videos when they’re not on YouTube.
But if a channel already has a personalized URL, there’s no need to update links. The viewer will be automatically redirected to the new, handle-based URL to create a better, more unified presence for creators on YouTube.
Similarly, YouTube is now allowing all channels to pick an URL and removes the requirement of having at least 100 subscribers to assign a unique URL.
